Roseingrave (lived 17th–18th centuries)| English family of musicians: |
Daniel (c. 1650–1727), organist and composer. He was educated in music as a chorister in the Chapel Royal in London. From 1679 to 1698 he was successively organist of Gloucester, Winchester, and Salisbury Cathedrals, and was then appointed to St Patrick's and Christ Church Cathedrals, Dublin.
Thomas (1688–1766), organist and composer, son of Daniel. He was a pupil of his father at Dublin, where he was educated at Trinity College. In 1710 he went to Italy where he met Alessandro and Domenico Scarlatti, making great friends with the latter and travelling with him. He went to London before 1720, when he produced Domenico Scarlatti's opera Narcisco with interpolations of his own. In 1725 he was appointed organist of St George's Church in Hanover Square. He retired in 1741 and moved to Dublin, living probably with his nephew William Roseingrave.
His works include the opera Phaedra and Hippolytus (on Edmund Smith's play based on Racine, 1753); services and anthems; organ voluntaries and fugues; suites for harpsichord and an introductory piece for his edition of Scarlatti's sonatas; 12 solos for flute and harpsichord; 12 Italian cantatas (1735).
Ralph (c. 1695–1747), composer, brother of Thomas. He studied with his father, who petitioned for him to succeed him as organist of St Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin, in 1719; but he was appointed vicar-choral and not organist until 1726. He also became organist of Christ Church Cathedral on his father's death. He wrote services and anthems.
