Rosenberg, Hilding (Constantin) (1892–1985)

Swedish composer and conductor. He studied at the Stockholm Conservatory, and also at Dresden, Berlin, Vienna, and Paris. On his return to Sweden he was conductor of the Stockholm Opera 1932–34.

Works Opera and stage Journey to America (including Railway Fugue), The Marionettes (on Benavente's Los intereses creados, 1939), The Isle of Felicity (1945), and The Two Princesses (1940); choreographic pantomime The Last Judgment; ballet Orpheus in the City (1938), incidental music for Sophocles' Oedipus Tyrannus, Euripides' Medea, and plays by Calderón, Goethe, Musset, O'Neill, Masefield, and Obey.

Orchestral eight symphonies (1917–15) including no. 2 Sinfonia grave, no. 3 The Four Ages of Man, no. 4 The Revelation of St John), Due sinfonie da chiesa, Adagio non troppo, Three Fantasy Pieces for orchestra; film music.

Chamber violin concerto, two cello concertos, 12 string quartets (1920–57), trios for flute, violin, and viola, and for oboe, clarinet, and bassoon; sonata and suite for violin and piano, sonatina for flute and piano, sonata for unaccompanied violin; piano suite.
