Roseville

Town in Placer County, northeast California; population (1990) 44,700. It is situated in the western foothills of the Sierra Nevada, 23 km/14 mi northeast of Sacramento, in an area that has produced fruits, grain, poultry, livestock, and wine. It has extensive railway yards and repair shops and various light manufactures, and is a rapidly growing residential suburb.

Roseville

Town in Macomb County, southeast Michigan; population (1990) 51,400. It is located 16 km/10 mi northeast of Detroit. It was founded by 1836, and the community grew rapidly with the influx of Irish and German immigrants in the 1840s. Detroit's industrial expansion after World War I further spurred the town's growth. Now a largely residential suburb, it has a sheet-metal plant and some light industry.

Roseville

Town in Ramsey County, southeast Minnesota; population (1990) 33,500. It is located to the north of St Paul. It was settled in 1843. Its current boom began when it became a residential suburb after World War II. Commercial development followed, and the town is now a retail, research, and truck transportation centre. Manufactures include computers and aeronautical products. There has been much commercial and retail development in the west of the town.

Roseville

Small town in Muskingum and Perry counties, south-central Ohio; population (1990) 1,900. It is situated on Moxahala Creek, 14 km/9 mi south-southwest of Zanesville. It is the centre of a district that since early in the 19th century has produced pottery. Ironspot, to the northeast, and Crooksville, to the southwest, are other production centres; the potteries are now open to tourists.
