Roslin

Former mining village in Midlothian unitary authority, Scotland, situated on the River North Esk, 11 km/7 mi south of Edinburgh; population (2001) 1,800. It was made a burgh in 1456, but later declined in importance. Rosslyn Chapel dates from 1446 and is described in Walter Scott's poem, ‘Lay of the Last Minstrel’.

The remains of the 14th-century stronghold of the clan Sinclair, razed by the English in 1544, lie on the edge of the settlement.
