Rossano

Town in Calabria region, southern Italy, near the coast of the Gulf of Taranto, 45 km/28 mi northeast of Cosenza; population (1991) 33,700. It is a centre of the olive industry. There is a Byzantine archiepiscopal cathedral, and a library containing valuable manuscripts of the Gospels.
