Rossbach, (Charles) Ed(mund) (1914–2002)

US weaver. Acclaimed as the ‘father of contemporary fibre’, he led in the development of nonfunctional textiles, the use of unusual materials, and the introduction of basketry techniques to make sculptural forms.

He was born in Chicago. After service in World War II and with a 1947 MFA in ceramics and weaving from Cranbrook Academy, he was design professor at the University of California, Berkeley 1950–79.
