Rosscarbery

Rosscarbery

Town and holiday resort in Rosscarbery Bay, County Cork, Republic of Ireland; population (2002) 862. A religious institution was founded here in the 6th century by St Fachna. There is a stone circle and portal tomb 2 km/1 mi east, and 3 km/2 mi west of Rosscarbery are the ruins of Benduff Castle, a former stronghold of the O'Donovans.

The largely 19th-century St Fachna's cathedral (Protestant) incorporates the remains of an earlier church and a 17th-century tower.

Creedon is a native of Rosscarbery in West Cork but has undertaken massive work with football in his adopted Tipperary.
