Rossi, Alice S (1922- )

US sociologist and educator. She was a leading feminist scholar as the author and editor of works on family, kinship, sex, and gender. She is particularly noted for her studies of personality development at all ages, what sociologists refer to as ‘life-course’ analyses.

She was born in New York City. With a PhD from Columbia University she pursued an academic career, mostly at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst 1974-91. Her works include The Feminist Papers 1973, Gender and the Life Course 1985, and Of Human Bonding (coauthored) 1990.
