Rosso, Medardo

Also found in: Encyclopedia 0.02 sec.

Rosso, Medardo (1858–1928)

Italian sculptor. Inspired by the Impressionists, and often taking his subjects from modern life, he aimed to reproduce effects of movement and light in his work. His works include Impression of an Omnibus 1883 and Boulevard Impression, Night in Paris 1895.

His technique of using wax over plaster gave an indeterminate, translucent aura to his forms; his sculptures therefore lose much of their individual quality when cast into bronze. He produced little work after an accident 1903.
