Rothmüller, Marko (1908–1993)

Yugoslav baritone. He sang Rigoletto on his Hamburg debut, in 1932, and from 1935 to 1947 appeared at Zurich, notably as Truchsess in the first performance of Hindemith's Mathis der Maler (1938). In 1947 he sang Jochanaan at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London and returned there until 1955 as Scarpia, and Wozzeck in the 1952 British first stage performance of Berg's opera. He performed at Glyndebourne 1949–55, as Guglielmo, the Count, Don Carlo, Macbeth, and Nick Shadow. He sang with the New York City Opera and Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London 1948–52. For his debut at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York, in 1959, he sang Kothner; he returned to the Metropolitan until 1964.
