Rouleau, Joseph (1929- )

Canadian bass. He studied in Montreal and made debut there in 1951, in Un ballo in maschera; he returned in 1955 for Verdi's Philip II. He sang at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London from 1957, as Colline, the Commedatore, and Philip in the local first performance of the French-language Don Carlos (1983), as well as in Les Troyens and Aïda,. In 1960 and 1974 he performed at the Paris Opéra, as Raimondo and Gurnemanz. He later returned to Canada and sang Mozart's Bartolo with Vancouver Opera in 1992.
