Rouses Point

Rouses Point

Community in Champlain township, Clinton County, northeast New York; population (1990) 2,400. It is situated on Lake Champlain, where it empties into the Richelieu River, and lies to the south of the Canadian Québec border, 35 km/22 mi north-northeast of Plattsburgh. It is connected by bridges with Alburg, Vermont. Rouses Point is a port of entry and resort.

Fort Blunder was built to the north, but was abandoned in 1818 when it became apparent that it was on Canadian land; it was replaced by Fort Montgomery, which now lies in ruins on a peninsula.
