Route 128

Ring road around Boston, Massachusetts, some 16 km/10 mi distant from the city centre. Route 128 has become famous as the site of the so-called ‘Massachusetts Miracle’, a boom in high-tech industries funded by government, defense contracts, and the area's many universities. Since the 1960s, firms have engaged in developing electronics, computer hardware and software, and defence equipment. There were 3,000 high-tech firms here in 1990.

Route 128 terminates in the north at Gloucester. Route 495, Boston's outer ring road, is situated a further 24 km/15 mi outside Route 128.
