Rovetta, Giovanni (c. 1595-1668)

Italian priest and composer. He learnt music as a choirboy at St Mark's, Venice, and in 1623 was appointed a bass in the choir there. He was ordained priest, became vice-maestro di cappella at St Mark's in 1627, and maestro di cappella in succession to Monteverdi in 1644.

Opera

Ercole in Lidia (1645) and Argiope (1649).
