Rovigo

Capital of Rovigo province in Veneto region, northeast Italy, on the Adigetto Canal, 60 km/37 mi southwest of Venice; population (1993 est) 52,100. There is some industry, and Rovigo is the agricultural market (cereals, livestock, sugar beet, fruit) and service centre for the Polesine (the area between the lowest parts of the rivers Po and Adige).

The explorer Giovanni Miani (1810–1872) was born here.
