Roy, Manabendra Nath (1887–1954)

Indian politician, founder of the Indian Communist Party. He was exiled to Tashkent in 1920. Expelled from the Comintern in 1929, he returned to India and was imprisoned for five years. A steadfast communist, he finally became disillusioned after World War II and developed his ideas on practical humanism.
