Riobamba| Capital of Chimborazo province in Ecuador, 160 km/99 mi south of Quito; population (1996) 111,416. From here, at an elevation of 2,900 m/9,514 ft, many of the highest Andean peaks of Ecuador may be seen. The main occupations are agriculture, stock raising, and textile manufacture. There is an airport here. |
