Royal Albert Hall, the

Large oval hall situated south of Kensington Gardens, London, opposite the Albert Memorial. It was built 1867-71 from the surplus of funds collected for the Albert Memorial. The architect was Francis Fowke (1823-1865). It is usually referred to as the Albert Hall.

It holds 6,800 people and is used for concerts, meetings, boxing-matches, and other events. It houses one of the largest organs in the world.
