Royal Musical Association

A society formed to promote the investigation of all aspects of music. It was founded in London in 1874 as the Musical Association and became ‘Royal’ in 1944. The Association published the Proceedings of the RMA (until 1956–57), and now publishes the Journal of the RMA (from 1987), the RMA Research Chronicle (from 1961), RMA Monographs (from 1985), and initiated Musica Britannica in 1951. It holds two conferences each year, one being for research students.

The society awards the Dent medal annually in association with the International Musicological Society to a musicologist of international repute.
