Goldberg, Rube (Reuben Lucius) (1883–1970)

US cartoonist whose most famous and widely read of his strips featured ridiculously complicated inventions. He produced several popular comic strips that were nationally syndicated from 1915. Goldberg also devoted time to political cartooning, winning a Pulitzer Prize in 1948.

Born in San Francisco, USA, and trained in engineering at the University of California, he abandoned that profession and joined the staff of the San Francisco Chronicle 1904. He moved to New York City 1907.
