Rudkin, Margaret (1897-1967)

US businesswoman. In 1937, to help her asthmatic son, Rudkin began to bake bread using stone ground whole wheat and other pure ingredients. By 1938 she was selling 4,000 loaves of bread a week; and she eventually opened bakeries in Pennsylvania and Illinois. In 1960 she sold her business, Pepperidge Farm, to Campbell Soups for $28 million.
