Rudolph, Alan

    0.07 sec.

Rudolph, Alan (1943– )

US film director, screenwriter, and producer. From the mid-1970s he has written and directed beautifully crafted, intensely personal works on the periphery of mainstream cinema, including Trouble in Mind (1985), The Moderns (1988), Mrs Parker and the Vicious Circle (1994), Afterglow (1997), Breakfast of Champions (1999), and The Secret Lives of Dentists (2002).

Rudolph worked as assistant director to Robert Altman, with whom he continued to collaborate into the 1990s. His films constantly return to the motifs of love and solitude, and make good use of music and intricate narrative structures.

His other films include Welcome to LA (1977), Return Engagement (1983), Choose Me (1984), Made in Heaven (1987), Love at Large (1990), Mortal Thoughts (1991), Equinox (1993), and Investigating Sex (2001).
