Rudolph (Johann Joseph Rainer) von Österreich (1788–1831)

Austrian amateur musician. He was a pupil of Anton Teyber (music instructor of the Imperial children), and later of Beethoven, who wrote the Missa solemnis for his installation as Archbishop of Olomouc (1820), though he finished it two years too late. Beethoven also dedicated, among others, the fourth and fifth piano concertos, the ‘Archduke’ Trio and the ‘Hammerklavier’ Sonata to him.

Works sonata for clarinet and piano; variations for piano on themes by Beethoven and Rossini.
