Rugeley

Town on the edge of Cannock Chase in Staffordshire, England, 14 km/9 mi southeast of Stafford, on the River Trent; population (2001) 23,000. Electronic equipment is manufactured here, and the town also has iron foundries and tanneries. Lea Hall colliery, sunk in the early 1960s, was closed in 1990 along with the adjacent power station. The grammar school was founded in the 17th century.

Lea Hall colliery was a large pit producing over a million tons of coal per annum. Much of this was consumed directly in the adjacent power station. A large industrial estate now lies on the site of the former colliery.
