Ruleville

Town in Sunflower County, northwest Mississippi; population (1990) 3,200. It is situated in the Delta, east of the Sunflower River, and 14 km/9 mi east-southeast of Cleveland. A plantation-country trade centre, processing cotton and lumber, it is noted as the longtime home of civil rights leader Fannie Lou Hamer (1917-77).
