Rung, Frederick (1854–1914)

Danish composer and conductor. A pupil of his father Henrik Rung (1807–1871), of Gade, and others, he went to the Danish Royal Opera, as coach, became assistant conductor in 1884 and succeeded Svendsen as first conductor in 1911. He gave early Danish performances of Wagner and Puccini, taught at the Conservatory and Horneman's music school, and conducted choral societies, including a madrigal choir founded by him.
