Runge, Peter-Christoph (1933– )

German baritone. After study in Hamburg he made his debut at Flensburg in 1958, as Guglielmo. He sang at Wuppertal Opera 1959–64; at Dusseldorf from 1964; and at Glyndebourne between 1966 and 1983, as Papageno, Pelléas, Amindo in L'Ormindo, and Pantaloon in The Love of Three Oranges. He sang Stolzius in the first UK performance of Zimmermann's Die Soldaten (Edinburgh, 1972) and in the premieres of Goehr's Behold the Sun (Duisburg, 1985) and Reimann's Das Schloss (Berlin, 1992). Other roles include Wozzeck and Beckmesser (Nice Opera, 1986).
