Russell, Henry

Russell, Henry (1812–1900)

English singer, organist, and composer. He studied at Bologna and with Rossini at Naples and appeared as a singer in London in 1828. He lived in Canada and the USA (where he was organist at Rochester, New York) 1833–41 and then gave entertainments in London with Charles Mackay for which he wrote many popular songs. Landon Ronald was his illegitimate son.
