Russellville

Town and administrative headquarters of Franklin County, northwest Alabama; population (1990) 7,800. It is located 32 km/21 mi south-southwest of Florence. An agricultural trade centre, it has grain mills, cotton gins, and quarries.

Russellville

Town and administrative headquarters of Pope County, northwest Arkansas; population (1990) 21,300. It is located 100 km/60 mi northwest of Little Rock, near Lake Dardanelle, on the Arkansas River. It grew as an agricultural shipping centre in the 1870s after the arrival of the railway, and later developed light manufacturing as well. The town is the headquarters of the Ozark National Forest and the home of Arkansas Tech University (1909).

Russellville

Town and administrative headquarters of Logan County, south Kentucky; population (1990) 7,500. It is located 48 km/30 mi southwest of Bowling Green. The economy depends on agriculture (tobacco, cattle), light manufacturing, and milling, and local coal and asphalt deposits. It was called Big Boiling Springs when first settled in the 1780s, and was renamed in 1798. Kentucky was declared a Confederate state by secessionists in conference in the town in 1861.
