Ruston

Town and administrative headquarters of Lincoln Parish, north Louisiana; population (1990) 20,000. It is located 53 km/33 mi west of Monroe. Founded in 1884 on the Shreveport, Vicksburg, and Pacific Railroad, it is a market and processing centre for farms producing cotton, corn, vegetables, peaches, poultry, and cattle, and a service town for nearby oil and gas fields. It is home to Louisiana Tech University (1894). Grambling is 8 km/5 mi to the west.
