Ruthwell

Village in Dumfries and Galloway unitary authority, Scotland, 16 km/10 mi southeast of Dumfries. A 7th-century runic cross is housed in the parish church.

The cross stands 5.5 m/18 ft high, and its carved decoration depicts scenes from the life of Christ, and Old English verses from the contemporary poem ‘The Dream of the Rood’ inscribed in runic characters.
