Ruyneman, Daniel (1886–1963)

Dutch composer. He experimented with composition and instruments and invented cup-bells with a rich and long-sustained sonority, which he used in several of his works.

He was trained for commerce and was self-taught in music.

The Brothers Karamazov (1928).

Choral and voice with orchestra

psycho-symbolic play The Clown with vocal and instrumental orchestra (1915); scena for tenor and orchestra from Kafka's Der Prozess/The Trial.

Chamber and orchestral

two symphonies, partita for strings, Hieroglyphs for chamber orchestra; string quartet (1946); sonata in G major and Klaaglied van een Slaaf for violin and piano; nine sonatas, three Pathemologies and sonatina for piano.

Other

two Sacred Songs (Tagore) and several other sets.
