Ryan, (Lynn) Nolan (1947- )

US baseball pitcher. Baseball's all-time leader in strikeouts with 5,714, Ryan won more than 300 games in his record 28 major league seasons with the New York Mets (1966-72), the California Angels (1972-79), the Houston Astros (1979-88), and the Texas Rangers (1988-93). He is credited with being the fastest pitcher of all time, with speeds of over 100 mph/160 kph clocked in August 1974. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in January 1999.
