Ryan, Meg (1961– )

US film actor. She is best known for her roles in romantic comedies, such as When Harry Met Sally (1989) and Sleepless in Seattle (1993), and You've Got Mail (1998).

Ryan made her film debut in Rich and Famous (1981), before landing a regular part on the soap opera As the World Turns (1982–84). She became known for her wholesome appeal in sweet and feisty roles. Other films include Innerspace (1987), D.O.A. (1988), Joe Versus the Volcano (1990), When a Man Loves a Woman (1994), French Kiss (1995), Courage Under Fire (1996), City of Angels (1998), Proof of Life (2000), Kate and Leopold (2001), In the Cut (2003), and Against the Ropes (2004).

She was born in Fairfield, Connecticut, and studied journalism at New York University. She began acting to subsidize her education, but after her stint on As the World Turns, she moved to Los Angeles in 1984 to pursue a film career. She landed a role on the TV series Wildside (1985) before being cast in a supporting role in the successful Tom Cruise film Top Gun (1986). She produced films from the mid-1990s, for example French Kiss and The Wedding Planner (2001).

She was married to US actor Dennis Quaid 1991–2001.
