Rybnik

Industrial town in Katowice province, southwest Poland, near the Czech border and 48 km/30 mi southwest of Katowice; population (1990) 144,000. There are coal mines and ironworks, and machine tools are manufactured. The town stands on the River Ruda, a tributary of the Oder.
