Ségur, Louis Philippe, comte de Ségur (1753–1830)

French diplomat and historian. He served in the American Revolution, and later was sent as ambassador to St Petersburg, Russia, where he concluded a commercial treaty of great value to France. He was subsequently posted to Berlin, Germany. He wrote Histoire de Frédéric Guillaume II/A History of Frederick William II (1800), Histoire universelle/A Universal History (1821–22), the eleven-volume Histoire de France/The History of France (1824–34), and the three-volume Mémoires/Memoirs (1824). Ségur was born in Paris, France.
