Sørøya

Norwegian island in the Norwegian Sea, off the northwest coast of Norway, 17 km/10.5 mi west of Hammerfest, 450 km/280 mi north of the Arctic Circle; area 816 sq km/315 sq mi. The discovery of carved bas-relief images of reindeer, elk, bears, whales, birds, humans, and boats, believed to date from 7000 to 5000 BC, makes this the world's most northerly collection of rock art.
