S4C

Welsh television station. Its central mission is to transmit programmes in Welsh, especially in the evening. At other times it shows Channel 4 programmes. Based in Cardiff, it began broadcasting in 1982, financed by a government grant and income from advertising. S4C is regulated by the Welsh Fourth Channel Authority, whose members are appointed by government.
