Selene

In Greek mythology, the goddess of the Moon; daughter of the Titan Hyperion; and sister of the Sun god Helios and Eos, goddess of the dawn. In later times she was identified with Artemis.

Every night she crossed the sky in the Moon's chariot, which in some traditions was harnessed with Artemis's silver stags. She also visited her beloved Endymion, a beautiful youth who had been granted an eternal ageless sleep.

In late Greek mythology, she was the mother of the four Horae, goddesses of the seasons, by her brother Helios.

The Romans named her Luna, and identified her with Diana (Greek Artemis). Her temple stood between the Aventine and the Circus Maximus.
