sere| Plant succession developing in a particular habitat. A lithosere is a succession starting on the surface of bare rock. A hydrosere is a succession in shallow freshwater, beginning with planktonic vegetation and the growth of pondweeds and other aquatic plants, and ending with the development of swamp. A plagiosere is the sequence of communities that follows the clearing of the existing vegetation. |
