Saône

River in eastern France, rising in the Vosges Mountains and flowing 480 km/300 mi to join the Rhône at Lyon. After rising in the Faucilles Mountains of the Vosges, it flows south past Gray, Chalon-sur-Saône, and Maçon. The chief tributaries are the Doubs and the Ognon. It is connected by canal with the rivers Loire, Seine, Meuse, Moselle, and Rhine.
