Saanich

District municipality in southwestern British Columbia, Canada, on the Saanich Peninsula of southeast Vancouver Island, adjacent to Victoria; population (1991) 95,600. It is a growing residential suburb of the capital, with coastal and interior parkland and beaches.

Central Saanich (district municipality, population (1991) 13,700) and North Saanich (district municipality, population (1991) 9,600), site of the Victoria International Airport and the Swartz Bay ferry terminal, are farther up the peninsula. Both are also growing rapidly.
