Saba

Smallest island in the Netherlands Antilles; area 13 sq km/5 sq mi; population (1992) 1,130. It is formed by the top of an extinct volcano and the capital of the island, The Bottom, is in the crater approximately 240 m/787 ft above sea level. Fort Bay is the island's main landing point; other towns include Windwardside and Hell's Gate. The highest peak is Mount Scenery (873 m/2,864 ft).

Tourism is not well developed here, and the island is known as the ‘unspoiled queen’ of the Caribbean. There is archaeological evidence to suggest the island was occupied by pre-Hispanic populations, probably the Caribs.
