Sacheverell Case

In Britain, prosecution of Dr Henry Sacheverell (c. 1674-1724) for preaching a High Anglican sermon 1709 attacking the Glorious Revolution. He was impeached by the Whig government and convicted the following year in the Lords, although only by a small majority. He was barred from preaching for the next three years. His case aroused much public sympathy and helped pave the way for the Tory's resumption of office.
