Sackler, Arthur M (1913–1987)

US psychiatrist and art collector. Sackler founded the Laboratories for Therapeutic Research at the Brooklyn College of Pharmacy in Long Island in 1958. He was a wealthy man, and his art collections included Impressionist paintings, pre-Columbian ceramics, and ancient Asian art. He gave generous bequests and art works to many American institutions. There are museums named after him at the Smithsonian Institution, and Harvard.
