Sagamihara

Industrial city in Kanagawa prefecture on the island of Honshu, Japan, 26 km/16 mi west of Yokohama; population (1994) 552,000. It is a residential suburb of Tokyo and Yokohama. Industries include the manufacture of radios, televisions, telecommunications equipment, batteries, electric cables, tractors, and cameras. It has a large silkworm industry.
