Saginaw

City, port, and administrative headquarters of Saginaw County, east Michigan, USA, on the Saginaw River, 32 km/20 mi south of Saginaw Bay, an arm of Lake Huron; population (2000) 61,800. It is situated in an agricultural area with oil wells, and salt and coal deposits. Industries include sugar-refining, and the manufacture of vehicle parts, metal goods, paper, and wood products.

Saginaw developed as a fur-trading post from 1816 and was a lumber centre until the late 19th century.
