Saint Clair, Lake

Lake in southeastern Michigan and the far south of Ontario. To the north, it is joined to Lake Huron by the Saint Clair River, while to the south, it is joined to Lake Erie by the Detroit River. An important link for shipping using the Great Lakes, Lake Saint Clair is 43 km/27 mi long and 13–39 km/8–24 mi wide, and is bisected by the Canada–US border.

Anchor Bay, the northern arm of Lake Saint Clair, is a resort area covering several islands and the Saint Clair Flats Wildlife Area. Suburbs of Detroit, including Saint Clair Shores and the five Grosse Pointe communities, are situated on the lake's western shore. The fishing industry here was ruined by industrial and other pollution in the 20th century, but it is still an important recreational area. On its eastern side lies some of Ontario's richest agricultural land.
