St Helens

City and administrative headquarters of Columbia County, northwest Oregon, on the Columbia River and the Washington border, 39 km/24 mi northwest of Portland; population (1990) 7,500. A river port, it has salmon fisheries and processes and ships dairy and market garden produce. A large paper and pulp plant is also here.
