Sainte-Marie

City in southern Québec, Canada, 45 km/28 mi southeast of Québec City, on the Chaudière River; population (1991) 10,500. A trade centre, it is noted for its baked goods and other foods, and has had textile, metal, and woodworking industries.

The Maison Tascherau (1809) survives from the 18th-century seigneurie (feudal estate) that gave rise to the community.
